Parents and Children Together and Childhood Apraxia of Speech |
LEARNING OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of the 2-day workshop, the participants will be able to: § Implement the five aspects of the Parents and Children Together (PACT) broad-based approach to phonological therapy with children with mild, moderate and severe phonological impairments; § Understand when and how to combine PACT with other treatment approaches to maximise intelligibility gains; § Use some of the PACT procedures and activities to work with children with speech sound disorders who do not fit neatly into the “phonological” category – particularly children with persistent phonetically based errors and children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS); § Differentially diagnose CAS from other speech sound disorders; § Apply three or more CAS treatment approaches; § Implement a detailed CAS assessment, and from it derive therapy targets and goals, and develop both the content and process of intervention procedures and activities for CAS. § Recognise the potential role of families in all of the above. |

| This content rich two-day event comprises interrelated seminars, with no overlap between the two (requiring attendance both days). Part 1 is on PACT, a broad-based, empirically tested approach to treating children with phonological disorder, developed in Australia. Part 2 is on the differential diagnosis and evidence-based treatment of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). The presentation has been built around participant feedback from previous CPD happenings in 2005-2009 in Australia and internationally and the particular topics are a focused response to popular demand. | ||||||||
