Workshop content
Highly unintelligible
children with complex difficult-to-analyze speech sound systems
can pose demanding diagnostic, intervention, and information
sharing challenges for all Speech-Language Pathologists. This
master class is about working with such children and their
families. The emphasis will be on the developments this decade
in the classification, differential diagnosis and management of
Moderate and Severe Phonological Disorders and Childhood Apraxia
of Speech and ways of streamlining treatment and expediting
therapy gains. |
|
|
Learning objectives
At the conclusion of the event the
participant will be familiar with:
 |
Current developments in the
definition, classification, assessment, diagnosis, management
and symptomatic treatment of moderate and severe
speech sound disorders. |
 |
Contemporary assessment and
intervention strategies for Developmental Phonological
Disorders and Childhood Apraxia of Speech.
|
 |
Means of effecting optimal
treatment gains through explicitly principled target
selection, goal setting, stimulability training and
pre-practice, and therapy that is grounded in evidence,
theory and best practice. |
