Pathology in the Middle East and North Africa |

|
Countries Not all of the countries in the Middle East are Arabic. Countries in the Middle East such as Cyprus, Iran, Israel, and Turkey, are not Arabic. They represent unique cultures and different language groups. As well, there are Arab countries that are not geographically part of the Middle East, but which are integral parts of the Arab World: Sudan and Djibouti in East Africa; and Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, and Mauritania in North Africa. More than 200 million Arabs are spread through 21 countries. The Arabic language is the main symbol of cultural unity among these people. |

mu My correspondent Ibtisam Al-Wardi, Speech-Language Pathologist who works at the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, in the Sultanate of Oman, informs me, "I am a speech and language pathologist from Oman. It's a very new field here but starting to emerge in the last 5 years. We have about 7 or eight Omani SLPs, beside lots of other SLPs who aren't Omanis. Omani SLPs are mainly covering hospitals, others covering special needs schools and mainstream schools, while others are moving towards giving private services." |
